The Municipal Police Training Academy at Mercyhurst North East is one of 16 certified academies in the state and the only one in northwest Pennsylvania to offer Act 120 certification. This certification is required for many law enforcement jobs, including municipal police work. Upon completion of the training, graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions as police officers, deputy sheriffs, municipal authority officers, park rangers, and security guards. The Academy office is often contacted with job openings, which are posted for the police cadets. Recruiters from various agencies also come to the classroom.
Two 20-week sessions are held each year, beginning the first weeks of March and August, with classes held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Cadets can complete the Academy and obtain 16 college credits, which may apply toward a two-year degree program in criminal justice.
The next academy class begins August 4, 2008. Apply to the academy today!
