Application Process

Municipal Police Training Academy Application checklist

1. Complete a Mercyhurst North East application. Apply online for free at apply.mercyhurst.edu.
2. Complete a Municipal Police Training Academy Application.
3. Have official copies of your high school transcripts and any college transcripts sent to:
   Mercyhurst North East Admissions Office
   16 West Division St.
   North East , PA 16428.
4. Schedule a Basic Skills test by calling the Admissions Office at (814) 725-6144.
5. Submit $100 Confirmation fee to the Admissions Office once you receive your college acceptance letter.
6. Complete financial aid forms at: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Individuals eligible for the GI Bill should contact Ann Jelinek at (814) 824-2397.
7. Call the Police Academy at (814) 725-6121 to schedule a formal interview and fill out an Academy application. Print and complete the required forms and bring them to your interview.

The following items must be completed along with the required forms.

1. Non-refundable $35 Academy processing fee. Covers expenses for Background Check, Nelson-Denny Reading test, and Physical Fitness test. Make checks payable to Mercyhurst College.
2. Have a public notary complete the Authority to Release Information form and send the original to:
   Municipal Police Academy
   Mercyhurst North East
   16 West Division St.
   North East, PA 16428
3. Schedule a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) and have the licensed psychologist mail the completed (original) form to the Municipal Police Academy at the address above.
4. Schedule a physical examination and have the licensed physician complete the Academy's Physical Exam form. Mail the original to the Police Academy at the address above. (This must be received by the Academy prior to step 5).
5. Pass a Pre-Academy Physical Requirements test. (Must rank at least in the 30th percentile according to age and gender based on Cooper Institute's HEALTH-BASED STANDARDS. Review the requirements in the table below.)
6. Pass Nelson-Denny Reading test.
7. Follow instructions for first day of class provided in the Police Academy acceptance letter.
