In-service Police Training
Pennsylvania police officers are required to complete 12 hours of mandatory in-service training annually in order to maintain their Act 180 certification, and Mercyhurst North East's Police Training Academy is one of several sites in the state that offers this training. Officers attend a two-day session to maintain their certification, taking courses determined by the Municipal Police Officers Education & Training Commission. The instructors for these courses, all of whom also teach courses in Mercyhurt North East's Act 120 program, must attend training and pass a test each year in order to be certified to teach. Only persons who have completed Act 120 and are currently employed can attend these classes.
